Let me explain these three elements, so you understand them, and know how to apply them to your business.

Connect is how you connect with and engage with your leads. What are you doing to get their attention? How are you engaging them to maintain their attention? How are you qualifying these leads to determine who is qualified and interested? You might be using Facebook ads, Radio, TV, Billboards, direct mail, postcards, sales people or many of these options or none at all.

Convert is the process of converting a lead into a sale. Along with the process of increasing the 30 Day, 60 Day, 90 Day and Lifetime customer values. What are the steps to convert a lead into a sale? What do they need to watch, read, see, or who do they speak to for how long and how many times?

Converse is how you engage and communicate with your leads and sales. What conversations are you having? What are the topic you speak about to engage and continue the engagement? How are you communicating is it online or offline? How many emails? Webinars, Facebook groups, phone calls, text messages, letters and the list goes on.

Keeping with the fishing story, you should understand the story of Captain Frank Mundus a fisherman in Montauk, New York. He would out-fish anyone, any time. When I say out-fish, I am talking one old guy out-fishing 50 other people.

What’s interesting about Frank is that he was the inspiration for the movie Jaws. They called Frank a “pound” fisherman. Because he would catch fish by the pound rather than per fish. And he didn’t even have a fancy boat with all the gadgets and sonars. He would use a simple rod and reel.

When Frank was asked why he catches so much fish? He said this.

When I go fishing I don’t think like a fisherman. I think like a fish.

I study and read about the fish and the weather patterns. I study where the fish go and try to understand why. So all I need to do is show up to the right location and present the right bait based on the fish, based on the time of day and day of the month.

This is what you need to understand about the Catfish mistake. It’s not about the creating a lead generation system about your product. It’s about creating a lead generation system around what your customers want and showing them how your product solves their problem. Stop thinking like a business owner or marketer and start thinking like a customer or buyer.
